What we check

Three things, in plain words.

  1. 01

    Your robots.txt

The file that tells bots where they may go. We check it against 41 AI bots, each taken from the company's own page about it.

  2. 02

    A normal visit

We open your home page like an ordinary browser. If even that is refused, we say we could not fully test the site.

  3. 03

    Visits as AI bots

We open it again as 19 of the bots, the ones that can honestly be imitated, to see whether your firewall turns them away.

Questions

  • What is robots.txt?

A small file on your website that tells bots which pages they may read. Most AI companies say their bots follow it. We read yours and show, bot by bot, whether it lets each one in.

  • What is a test visit?

Some firewalls turn bots away even when robots.txt allows them. So we also open your home page once as a normal browser, and once as each AI bot that can honestly be imitated, and show who got the page and who was turned away.

  • Why are some bots marked “not tested”?

Bots from Google, Bing, Apple and a few others are verified by their network address. A visit from us would not be the real bot, so we only read robots.txt for them and say so.

  • Does this show whether AI recommends my brand?

No. It shows whether AI bots can read your website. Whether AI names your brand in its answers is a different question, which Opal AEO answers by asking the AI assistants real buying questions.

  • Do you keep my website address?

We keep the address you typed and the result, so the same private link can show it again. We do not ask for your name or your email to run a check.
